An 18th-century farmhouse that Massimo Bottura and Lara Gilmore opened in 2019 as the residential extension of Osteria Francescana. Twelve individually conceived rooms are hung with the couple's own contemporary art, and the house is stocked as a home rather than run as a hotel, with an open kitchen, honesty bar, and gardens. Its centerpiece is Francescana at Maria Luigia, where a set tasting menu of Osteria Francescana greatest hits is served at communal tables from a theatrical open kitchen.
Why we recommend it
It is the only way to sleep inside the Bottura universe, and the on-site Francescana table is the most attainable route to the three-star kitchen's canon.
