Opened by the Shivdasanis (who went on to found Soneva) as Soneva Gili, then sold in 2012 to Singapore's HPL Hotels & Resorts and rebranded — the barefoot-luxury concept and its 'No News, No Shoes' ethos have carried through the change of ownership intact. Forty-five thatched-roof overwater villas, each reached by private jetty, keep televisions and clocks out and bare feet in; the Overwater Villa Suite has its own water slide and a crow's-nest lookout reached by rope ladder.
