Ultra PremierHotel Maria Cristina, a Luxury Collection Hotel
Luxury Collection (Marriott) · Belle Époque grand hotel · City centre, on the Urumea river beside the Victoria Eugenia Theatre
Opened in 1912 and designed by Charles Mewès, the architect behind the Ritz hotels of Paris and Madrid, the Maria Cristina has been San Sebastián's grande dame for more than a century. A restrained refurbishment kept the Belle Époque bones intact, and the hotel remains the traditional headquarters of the International Film Festival, hosting its stars each September. Rooms and suites overlook the river and, in the best cases, reach toward the bay and the old town.
Why we recommend it
The city's benchmark address for pedigree and location, within a short walk of both the Parte Vieja pintxo bars and the beach. Nothing else in the centre matches its history or its front-of-house polish.
